HVO100
We can cut emissions by 90% with clean fuels
Clean diesel for recreational boats
Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) is now available, a new renewable diesel that has major environmental benefits while being better for engines. By using HVO100, you as a recreational boat owner contribute to long-term sustainable boating.
HVO100 offers the boat owner several benefits such as
- Reduction of CO2 emissions by 90%
- Less risk of growth of microorganisms in the tank
- No sooty and smelly exhaust fumes
- Longer shelf life in the tank
Can I use HVO100 in my boat engine?
Leading boat engine manufacturers have approved HVO100 for their engines. If you have questions about whether your particular engine can use HVO100, you can contact the manufacturer directly to find out if they approve HVO100 for your engine.
What is HVO100?
HVO100 stands for ‘hydrogenated vegetable oil’ which is renewable. HVO100 has a very low aromatics and sulphur content and a higher cetane number, resulting in lower emissions of particulate matter, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulphur compounds compared to conventional diesel. This contributes to better air and water quality by reducing emissions of pollutants.
How does it work with conventional diesel and where can I fill up?
HVO100 can be blended with conventional diesel. And it is possible to switch between HVO100 and conventional diesel. The price of diesel has fluctuated widely in recent years for both HVO100 and conventional diesel. The price of HVO100 is often a few dollars higher, but is offset by the benefits. Unfortunately, the number of marinas that offer HVO100 along our long coastline is small. Feel free to ask your seaport when they will start offering HVO100. HVO100 is sold at many onshore stations and can be an alternative for boat owners with low diesel consumption for a year. The pump must be labeled HVO100 and nothing else.
