Measures to be taken

What can I do?

Do you have a two-stroke outboard engine with carburetor technology, i.e. an engine that does not have direct injection? And have you decided to stop releasing toxins into the water?

♻️ Hand in your engine for scrapping

Then you can, for example, hand in your engine for scrapping at Båtretur. They ensure that the material in the engine is recycled in an environmentally sound way and that the engine is not resold or becomes spare parts.

Båtretur is a national collaborative platform for the collection and recycling of recreational boats and two-stroke engines with carburetors. There is no profit motive, but the aim is to make it as easy as possible to scrap boats and engines. Båtretur currently has 30 facilities around the country and is a collaboration between Båtskroten, Stena Recycling and Sweboat.

🌿 Fuel greener

If you are unable to scrap your carbureted two-stroke engine, choose alkylate gasoline, which is better for the environment and the climate. It is a cleaner form of gasoline and with it in the tank, less toxins end up in our waters. It is also good to change your oil to biodegradable two-stroke oil. If you can’t find these products at your seaport – ask them to bring them in!

💫 Switch to new engine

If you want to change to a new engine – preferably choose an electric, four-stroke or modern two-stroke engine that is more environmentally friendly. They have lower fuel consumption, cleaner exhaust emissions and a lower noise level than carbureted two-strokes. In addition, the oil does not follow the exhaust gases into the water and air.

As recreational boaters, we can reduce the environmental impact so that future generations can experience pristine archipelago bays with clear water and a teeming plant and animal life. For example, by not using old two-stroke engines with carburetors.
